Synopsis:
We have a hard time talking about money … how we use it … how it can use us. It’s a sensitive subject. We think of it as a very personal matter.
Yet Jesus talked about money all the time. In fact, he said more about money than about Spirit, church, and prayer—combined! He thought our attitude towards money was important. He taught what we did with our money revealed our hearts. Our relationship with money was, for him, a litmus test for the soul.
When churches talk about money, the subject is almost always giving … tithing … contributions. When Jesus talked about money, the subject was more often faith, contentment, the dangers of debt, forgiveness, priorities. Perhaps it’s time the church of Jesus starts talking about money like Jesus did.
