Holy Vow!
The Church and Your Marriage

Synopsis:

Website Holy Vow GraphicMarriage is under attack. There is little in the world around us—our culture, the media, popular attitudes—that values and upholds marriage. These days, divorce is considered a minor glitch, not a serious problem. So marriages fall apart and divorce rates are correspondingly high.

As Christians, we swim against this prevailing tide. Or do we? The truth is that poor marriage skills and attitudes, hurting marriages, and divorce are as problematic in the church as outside of it. Our divorce rate is almost as high. Even Christian marriages die at a rate that damages our witness to the world and calls into question the transforming power of God.

Marriage is God’s idea. He invented it and he can sustain it. But not without our cooperation and obedience. Not without our willingness to trust his will and his ways.

This seminar is an unembarrassed plea for Christians to view their marriages as God’s business. Our marriages are covenant relationships, vowed in God’s presence, and rooted in our commitment to follow Jesus. And only when every aspect of our married life—communication, goals, sexual relationship, conflict, finances, child-raising—is submitted to Him will we discover the love God always intended us to have.

Tim Woodroof has a PhD in Marriage and Family. One of his priorities has been to strengthen Christian marriages through preaching, teaching, and counseling. In particular, Tim wants to help the church to understand its role in encouraging marriages, modeling husband/wife relationships, and healing broken families.
