The Word Together–Read Through the Bible Plan

word together frontEvery other year, I issued a challenge to the Otter Creek Church to read through the Bible together. We published a reading schedule (in a bookmark format) for our people to keep in their Bibles. This Bible Reading Plan required only 3-4 chapters a day but allowed our people to read through the entire Bible in one year. We alternated readings from the Old and New Testaments for a little variety.

As an incentive, I offered to buy coffee for anyone who read through the Bible in the span of one year.

A congregational effort like this is not only healthy for individual Christians … it has an impact on the tone and focus of the church. It changes conversations in the foyer, input during classes, and involvement in worship.
